Intravitreal Injections

Intravitreal injections are pharmaceutical drugs given in the form of injections into the eye to treat various diseases such as:
1. Wet type of age related macular degeneration
2. Diabetic macular edema
3. Central or Branch retinal vein occlusion complicated with macular edema
4. Post-cataract surgery macular edema
5. Inflammations of the eye

Types of injections:

The drugs currently used in the form of intravitreal injections are:
• Avastin (bevacizumab)
• Lucentis (ranibizumab)
• Eylea (aflibercept)
• Ozurdex (dexamethasone)
• Kenacort (triamcinolone acetonide)
In most of the cases, a series of injections are needed to achieve the best results. The number of injections and the frequency of re-examinations varies depending on the condition and its severity and it is different for each patient.
