Retinal Vein Occlusion

Retinal vein occlusion occurs when the venous drainage from the eye is obstructed, resulting in bleeding and swelling at the center of the vision, the macula.

Types of retinal vein occlusion:

There are two different types of vein occlusion:
1) Central Retinal vein occlusion when the central retinal vein is obstructed.
2) Branch Retinal vein occlusion when one or more small retinal veins are obstructed.

Predisposing factors:

The main predisposing factors are:
• Diabetes
• Glaucoma
• High blood pressure
• Hyperlipidemia
• Atherosclerosis
• Blood clotting disorders

Treatment:

Different treatments can be applied depending on the case such as:
• Laser photocoagulation
• Intravitreal Injections
